From an Accident to a Happy Marriage - Muhammad Hamza & Muneeba Ahmed

It was the usual evening traffic and I had been driving from work. The roads were mostly occupied by all sorts of vehicles but there was a road I normally used as a shortcut in such times. I did the same that day except, on the turnabout, a speeding SUV hit my car and I was found in the hospital. Although I survived, my legs were paralyzed for the rest of my life. This was a curse for me and my family. My family had fixed my marriage with a cousin and we were engaged. After two months, we were supposed to get married. When my uncle’s family came to know about this, they withdrew the Rishta and fixed my cousin’s Rishta somewhere else. I was horrified at this action but knew the way society would mock their family if they had continued with the marriage so I was not mad, but I was disappointed. This disappointment was added to the handicapped nature of my life. My wheelchair was the only way of transit but my company was cooperative in providing me maximum support to get used to this new transition in life. Slowly, I got used to the work ethic and began living a normal life. My cousins were getting married and I attended the weddings with best wishes for them. Deep in my heart, I felt incomplete and it killed me mentally but I did not share this moment of loss with anyone. I kept fighting the battle of my life alone, with my family providing me with the maximum support. One of my friends called me for dinner. He had visited his family and was going back with his wife. Both of them were unaware of my condition and I tried to act optimistic in front of them. My friend felt pity at my state and consoled me with genuine feelings. I assured both of them it was okay and I was quite used to it now. They both asked about my to-be wife and I told them the truth as it was. Their faces showed the concern they had for me and my friend shared his story of how he found his wife. That was when I came to know about Pakistani Rishtey. I was not surprised by my friend as he was flawless in physique and appearance so there was no reason for rejection, especially when he worked at a reputable multinational company. With me, it was not so easy as I was handicapped. But my friend convinced me to display my profile and it went live. I got a matchmaker to help me find the perfect match. It took me some time. There were some families which had almost accepted the Rishta but it always broke apart when they knew about my physical state. Finally, after some more weeks, I found a family which had no problem with my physical state and my family got some hope. I was optimistic about this and life had taught me patience already. So, we all waited for the meeting. The matchmaker arranged a meeting and it was a success. After some weeks, the marriage took place. It has been 5 happy years and my wife has been the best support anyone could ask for. We live happily working at our jobs and raising our three children with the right set of values for their bright future. Thank you Pakistani Rishtey for making my life colorful!
